Successful Promotion of Your Etsy Shop

Written by: Kitty  of http://kittyd.etsy.com

There are so many threads in the Etsy forums about shop promotions, and which way is the best way to promote your shop. I’m going to mention a few ways to do this here, and maybe together we can generate more ideas for our Boomers team.

One way to promote is to post on the Etsy forums, but not necessarily in the promotions thread. Why do I say not necessarily in the promotions thread? Because there are so many people on Etsy now, and the promo thread is so full of buy & replace topics that many people now ignore the promos. If you do decide to post on the forums, make sure you have an eye-catching item from your shop as your avatar! And, make sure your posts are positive-you don’t want to turn customers away from your shop with your negative posts.

Another way to promote your shop is by blogging. I was introduced to blogging by our own GypsyGoods, I had no idea how to go about it. But, blogspot.com is one that is very easy to set up. There’s also blogger.com, my space, typepad, live journal and many other good blog sites on the wide, wide web.

Yet a third way to promote your shop is to join sites like Flickr.com and upload pictures of your etsy shop there. If you join in the self-portrait Thursday on the Etsy forums (look under etc. on any given Thursday) , then more people will see your items when they go to look at your picture.

There are also many handcrafted goods promotion sites on the internet, two examples are: http://weloveetsy.com and http://indiepublic.com .

Several paid ways to advertise on the internet have been mentioned in the Etsy forums, check out the Crafting and Business section of the forums-there’s a ton of good information there.

I’ve used http://etsytools.com for advertising before, there’s http://www.projectwonderful.com/ where you can bid on advertising spots, there’s http://www.modish.typepad.com/ but, if like me, you can’t afford the advertising space on this particular site, you can join in on their monthly indie giveaway, as a lower cost way to advertise on their site.
